Assisted Areas

Significant areas of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are among a number of parts of the country which have been designated with assisted area status. This should help create jobs and encourage investment in premises and machinery through capital allowances and additional tax breaks for businesses.

Assisted area designation was a major component of the D2N2 LEP Strategic Economic Plan, and comes after a significant campaign from the LEP to secure support for areas of opportunity as well as areas of need.

D2N2 brought local partners together to make coordinated responses to the two stages of Government consultation on the development of the 2014-2020 Assisted Areas map.

The European Commission has agreed a map that provides for a population coverage of 594,362 within D2N2, which represents 125% of our previous population coverage of 474,804.

The map has been remodelled to focus on areas of business need and opportunity and assisted area status has been extended to coverage within more areas of D2N2.
