ESIF 2014-2020 Technical Assistance

This section of the D2N2 website is for partners and organisations that have an interest in applying for European Structural and Investment Funds to support businesses, communities and individuals across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The primary aim of the ESIF 2014-2020 website is to encourage potential partners and providers to understand the nature range and scope of ESIF opportunities and allow them to be better informed to contribute to their delivery as appropriate.

The website gives more information on the approaches undertaken by the D2N2 LEP in the following areas:

  • Updates section including FAQ’s which gives up to date important information on the ESIF programme and timescales

  • Key Documents section which gives information on all the important documents associated with the ESIF programme such as the D2N2 ESIF strategy

  • The D2N2 Technical Assistance Team - giving key contacts in relation to EU Funding streams in the D2N2 Area

  • Governance section which gives information on the management arrangements for the D2N2 ESIF programme

  • Draft Guidance and Application Forms section which gives information on the latest documentation associated with making bids for ESIF funding

  • ‘Give us your ideas’ section which allows prospective applicants to send in their ideas for comment and advice

  • ESIF Events Section which gives up to date information on events arranged by D2N2 and key partners which may be of interest to those organisations who wish to know more about the bidding opportunities available within the ESIF 2014-2020 programme

In 2013, Government asked each of the 39 LEPs to draw up a six year strategy for spending a notional allocation of European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF). The D2N2 allocation is one of the largest in the country at approximately £214m for 2014-2020, comprised of;

  • £104,400,000 – ERDF (European Regional Development Fund):
  • £104,400,000 – ESF (European Social Fund)
  • £5,500,000 – EAFRD - (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development)

Building upon an extensive process of consultation, D2N2, in line with other LEPs, submitted drafts of its ESIF Strategy to Government in October 2013, January 2014 and, most recently, May 2014.  The ‘ESIF’ Strategy provides some of the ‘fuel in the tank’ to help deliver D2N2’s Strategic Economic Plan, supporting its ambition of creating 55,000 extra private sector jobs by 2023. Having led the preparation of the Strategy, the role of the LEP is to work with a range of partners together to oversee its effective implementation.

The UK Government will remain the Managing Authority for the ESIF Programme, however D2N2 will have a continuing role in determining which activity best delivers the D2N2 ESIF Strategy. The ESIF programme cannot open for applications until Government has concluded its ‘Partnership Agreement’ with the European Commission and the Commission has approved the relevant national ‘operational programmes’. It is therefore not anticipated that the programme can begin to spend until 2015.
