Derby College Mechatronics Lab

D2N2 is proud to have invested £1.3million of Local Growth Funding into the Mechatronics Lab at Derby College.

The state-of-the-art laboratory further increases the skills and employment opportunities of Engineering and Professional Construction students and apprentices.

The Mechatronics (engineering which uses a mix of electrical and mechanical systems) equipment in the Hub, designed by multi-national industrial control and automation company Festo, is a scaled-down version of the firm's next-generation in industrial production lines.

It mirrors the hi-tech artificial intelligence manufacturing equipment used in a wide range of industry sectors, from those making confectionery to cars.

Students who use the lab will learn a wide range of industry-relevant practical and theoretical skills including operating pneumatic, hydraulic, and robotic manufacturing control systems as well as computer programming and skill maintenance of the equipment.

The lab was opened in the summer of 2019 and welcomed its first cohort in the following September.
