Advisory Boards

The purpose of the four Advisory Boards is to support the D2N2 LEP Board in their mission to better push forward on objectives to boost the LEP area’s economic growth, as set out in its Vision 2030 Strategic Economic Plan. Each Advisory Board will provide regular progress updates to the main D2N2 LEP Board and develop a work programme to drive forward their areas of responsibility.
Decisions on policy and programmes will be made at the Investment Board and D2N2 LEP Board level.

Place Board – Chair: David Williams 

The place board is designed to facilitate and support the development of approaches to enhance the overall quality of place across D2N2, ensuring that it remains a great place to live, work, and visit.

The Place Board will be an advisory group to the D2N2 board to facilitate and support the development of approaches to enhance the overall quality of place across D2N2. The Place Board will bring together strategies, implementation and investment proposals for the Place priority within the Strategic Economic Plan, including infrastructure and connectivity, placemaking and marketing, and digital connectivity. This will build on the work of existing local plans and strategies.

People & Skills Board – Chair: Professor Katherine Mitchell 

 The People & Skills board, currently chaired by Professor Kathryn Mitchell, develops, implements, and oversees the delivery of the People and Skills element of the Strategic Economic Plan and acts as the Skills Advisory Panel for D2N2.

The Board will also lead the development of the People element of the Local Industrial Strategy for D2N2.

Business Growth Board – Chair: Viv Russell 

Currently chaired by Viv Russell, the Business Growth Board contributes to the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan ambition that by 2030 D2N2 will have a world-class innovation-led, highly productive economy with a global reputation for manufacturing excellence.  

The main purpose of the Business Growth Board is to ensure that businesses across D2N2 are supported in order to maximise their potential for growth and productivity. This is achieved by providing a focus for coordinating the support provided across the area and informing the design of future support.

The Business Growth Board specifically leads on overseeing the delivery of the D2N2 Growth hub on behalf of the D2N2 Board.

Innovation Board - Chair: Paul Harris

The Innovation Board, currently chaired by Paul Harris, is responsible for developing a strategic and coordinated approach to innovation activities, which support and drive forward D2N2’s economic growth ambitions as articulated in the Strategic Economic Plan and Science & Innovation Audit. 

The Innovation Board does this by bringing together universities, policymakers, delivery partners and businesses into effective industrial partnerships.
